Access to cash abroad no longer troubles travellers - IDT Finance launches Prime Twin Cards for travels -
London, UK March, 2008: IDT Finance today announced the launch of the upgraded Prime account with second card functionality. A second card can be purchased by any Prime Card customer holding an upgraded reloadable card. This allows two cards (and two people) access to the one account. As Prime Cards can be used globally – wherever you see the MasterCard acceptance mark - they are ideal for travellers and parents/guardians with globe-trotting teenagers. The cards help minimise fraud and provide safe and easy access to cash while travelling abroad.
Figures from gapyear.com show that 230,000 18-24 year olds take a gap year, spending an average of £3,000-4,000. Parents worried about their children running out of money when travelling often give them their own personal credit card details. This can lead to the card being blocked due to simultaneous transactions occurring in both the UK and abroad, or worse. If the card details are lost or stolen, parents’ personal funds are at risk.
Prime Card, on the other hand, has been designed not to link in any way with any of the customer’s existing bank accounts, thereby minimising the risks of fraud. Prime Card also allows parents to load additional funds onto the account either online or over the counter at convenience stores throughout the UK.
The prepaid Prime Card is not only useful for protective parents; with credit card fraud increasing over the last decade, all travellers need to take additional measures to protect themselves. Credit card companies have made new moves to boost security with many now freezing accounts when unusual spending patterns occur, including charges made in a foreign country. Carrying a pre-loaded Prime Card can be a useful back-up should this happen.
Whilst the traditional Prime Card is primarily used as a general spend card, cardholders are also using its unique functionality to prepare for emergency situations. Prime users can simply buy and load a Prime Card, only activating it when they find themselves stranded without access to money - once activated, the Card can be used to pay for goods and services straight away.
The Prime Card account, with a second card, also provides an affordable and secure way to share money with family and friends overseas.
